Insurance of Carriers Liability to Passengers

Carriage activities imply the risk of causing damages both to the cargoes carried and to life and health of passengers transported. The insurance is realised based on the provisions of Law no.1533-XII of 25 February 1998 on the Compulsory Insurance of Carrier’s Liability before Passengers. This law stipulates that the subject matter of insurance is carrier’s civil liability for damages caused to life, health and property of passengers.
Risks covered:
According to the provisions of an agreement on carrier’s liability insurance, passengers are protected within the limits set by this Law:

  • In case of bodily injuries or death as a result of a road accident. The insured amount is paid within the limits of real prejudice, however it cannot exceed 10,000 US dollars
  • In case of damage of full destruction of cargoes (baggage). There is compensated their real value, however, not more than 1,000 US dollars


NOTE: According to this Law, the insurance premium is set in the amount of up to 1% of the sum of annual volume of passenger carriage. The insurance may be contracted for a period of up to a year.
